During these last years, Greece has been- and still remains- in the eye of the storm, due to its financial plight. Specialists of every kind have published a multitude of articles, in every last corner of the earth, cultivating the belief, that Greece is the ‘Paradise of corruption’.
A land so beautiful, collapsed in the blink of an eye, due to the power of the tabloids and html pages!
‘We evade paying our taxes! We produce nothing! Our politicians are weak! We are worthy of this fate! We live on borrowed money and on other people’s charity! We’ll never be fully integrated Europeans!’, was written and heard by many Greek pens and voices, as if beliefs like these, have never crossed the minds of citizens in other countries, or do not form their own realities.
It was our country, though, which was meant to play the key role on the global stage, to be addressed as the scapegoat, easily ridiculed and in the mercy of those who represent a superficial righteousness, which nevertheless masks authoritarian views and fathomless arrogance.
The Santorini Biennial, together with 87 artists, from Greece and numerous other countries and with the unwavering support of its sponsors, have organized the exhibition ‘Design a Wish for Greece’, in order to promote the modern face of Greece abroad.
Works in the form of posters, each presenting Greece in a different manner, ‘narrate’ our cultural cornucopia, our history, the beauty, generosity, charm and poetic grace of this piece of land, whose main mission is to play a protagonistic role on the global scene, as a cradle of civilization and bearer of good things.
The exhibition commences its journey from Tbilisi, Georgia, and will continue its tour through 25 metropolis of the world, like Moscow (Jan 2014), Tokyo & Osaka (Feb 2014), Sidney & Melbourne (Feb & March 2014), Shanghai, Beijing, Calcutta, Mumbai, Cape Town, Sao Paolo, Rio de Janeiro, New York, Los Angeles, Montreal, Toronto, London, Madrid, Paris, Berlin, Rome, Venice, Thessaloniki, Athens and it will finally arrive on Santorini in September 2014.
The duration of the exhibition in every city will be 30-40 days and the exhibition schedule, as well as that of the accompanying events will be displayed on the page:
The first exhibition opens its doors to the public in Tbilisi, Georgia, on Saturday 30th November 2013 at 18.00 hrs., in the space of the Greek Youth Union of Georgia, 8 Kiev Str.,3rd floor, with the significant cooperation and support of its President, Mrs. Eugenia Kotanidis.
